Inphi executives have more than 100 years of functional and industry experience in their respective fields, from networking and microwave communications systems to broadband access and wireless applications. They have honed their skills at such cutting-edge technology companies as Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Lucent and Sun Microsystems. United by a common goal to provide the highest performance analog components to customers, Inphi's management team is well positioned to help module and system manufacturers meet today's market challenges head on.
Prior to joining Inphi, Young K. Sohn was President of Agilent Technologies' Semiconductor Group (now known as Avago Technologies), where he led the successful turnaround of the semiconductor operation. Before that time, he served as chairman and CEO of Oak Technology, a digital media semiconductor company providing solutions for the consumer electronics markets.
Earlier, Mr. Sohn worked as co-president of Quantum Corporation, a data storage solution products manufacturer. He also worked at Intel Corporation managing the Samsung-Intel strategic partnership. While with Intel, he started the company's PC chipset business unit, which achieved #1 PC chipset market share under his leadership.
He currently is a board member for ARM Holding PLC and Cymer, Inc. In addition, Mr. Sohn was an advisor to MIT Media Lab's OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) program and was past president and chairman of the Asia America MultiTechnology Association (AAMA). AAMA, formerly known as the Asian American Manufacturers Association, was founded in 1979 and is Silicon Valley's largest and most established non-profit organization dedicated to the Asia-American high-tech community.
Mr. Sohn earned a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.S. degree from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
John Edmunds joined Inphi Corporation in January 2008 as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer. He formerly served as CFO of Trident Microsystems, and before that he was Vice President of Finance at Zoran Corporation. In August 2003, Zoran Corporation acquired Oak Technology, where Mr. Edmunds was the Senior Vice President and CFO.
Earlier, Mr. Edmunds was the Corporate Controller and Director of Internal Audit at Electronics for Imaging (EFI). Previously and over an 11-year period, he held various senior-level finance positions at Tandem Computers, including his most recent position there as Vice President of Tandem Computers Credit Corp. Mr. Edmunds started his career as a C.P.A., gaining seven years of public company-oriented audit experience with Coopers & Lybrand in San Francisco and San Jose.
Mr. Edmunds received his B.S. degree in finance and accounting from University of California, Berkeley.
As one of Inphi's founders, Dr. Loi Nguyen has more than 20 years of experience in the development of high-speed devices and integrated circuits based on advanced gallium arsenide (GaAs) and indium phosphide (InP) technologies. He is well recognized in the high-speed III-V research community worldwide for his work in this field.
From 1984 to 1988, Dr. Nguyen worked at the Honeywell Physical Sciences Center in Bloomington, Minnesota, while writing his graduate thesis on the development of GaAs devices. His thesis contributed to the commercialization of advanced GaAs technology for applications such as direct broadcast satellite (DBS), millimeter wave radios, automotive radar, and defense. In 1992 he established a world-record cutoff frequency for high-speed transistors, for which he received the prestigious IEEE Paul Rappaport Award for Best Paper published in an Electron Devices Society journal.
Dr. Nguyen holds seven U.S. patents and is an author of more than 50 scientific publications. He has served on technical committees of the IEEE International Electron Devices Meetings, the IEEE Device Research Conference and the IEEE International Solid State Devices Meetings.
Dr. Nguyen holds B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Cornell University and an MBA from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA.
Dr. Gopal Raghavan is one of Inphi's founders and serves as the company’s Chief Technology Officer. He has more than 25 years of experience in high-speed circuit design and device modeling.
From 1984 to 1994, Dr. Raghavan was a senior engineer with Intel Corporation, engaged in CMOS circuit design and process development. Prior to founding Inphi, he worked at Conexant Systems as a principal engineer designing integrated circuits for 10 Gbps SONET applications.
Dr. Raghavan has won several awards, including the Hughes Hyland Patent Award (1998) and the Ross Tucker Award from TMS/IEEE (1993). He holds 15 patents and has published more than 30 technical publications.
He holds a B. Tech degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology as well as M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University.
Atul Shingal brings to Inphi more than 22 years of international operations, engineering and quality management, and IT experience. Most recently, he served as vice president of operations for SiRF Technology, a leading provider of GPS-powered location platforms based on semiconductor and software products. At SiRF, Mr. Shingal was responsible for directing the company’s technology roadmap, back-end engineering and manufacturing operations. Mr. Shingal’s expertise was a key factor in ensuring that SiRF had access to leading-edge semiconductor technologies through its partners as well as meeting customer and partner expectations for product quality and delivery.
Previously, Mr. Shingal served as vice president of operations for Globespan Virata, where he helped to drive increased revenues while consolidating and merging Globespan and Virata Operations into one group. Before that, he held management positions with Virata Corporation, Cypress Semiconductor, National Semiconductor and the Tata Group of Companies in India.
Mr. Shingal earned a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the Government Engineering College, India; an M.S. degree in electrical engineering from San Jose (California) State University; and an MBA from Pune University, India.
Ron Torten has more than 10 years of experience in executive and general management positions. He joined Inphi from NemeriX, where he was the Chief Executive Officer.
Prior to his time at NemeriX, Mr. Torten was Vice President, worldwide materials, at Agilent Technologies, where he was responsible for $1.3B in spending for Agilent's Semiconductor Products Group. Before Agilent, he worked as Vice President and General Manager for the Networking Entertainment Division at Agere Systems. He also held a variety of product marketing and supply chain positions at Quantum Corporation.
Mr. Torten holds a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology as well as an MBA from UC Davis.
Paul Washkewicz has more than 25 years of experience in senior marketing and engineering positions with Intel, Hewlett Packard and General Dynamics. Most recently, he was Director of Marketing for the Edge Access Division at Intel, where he and his team managed the Layer 1 and Layer 2 silicon products for the network access markets. Mr. Washkewicz was formerly the TDMA/CDMA business unit manager for DSPC Communications, acquired by Intel in October 1999, where he played a key role in growing the TDMA/CDMA baseband chipset business.
Prior to joining Intel, Mr. Washkewicz spent eight years at Hewlett-Packard, where he held increasing positions of responsibility in marketing. As marketing manager of the Electrical Engineering division, he was responsible for developing marketing strategy, increasing revenues and managing a team of product marketing and marketing communications professionals. He also spent seven years at General Dynamics as a senior electrical engineer, where he developed microwave circuits for receivers and transmitters at 10 GHz and higher.
Mr. Washkewicz graduated from California State Polytechnic University with a B.S. degree in electrical and computer engineering.
Norman Yeung joined Inphi from Sun Microsystems, where he led an organization of 200+ multi-disciplined engineers. His team's numerous accomplishments included the development of the dual-thread Millennium processor in 90nm process technology, serial transceiver designs up to 12Gb/s in 65nm and 45nm, and SERDES PHY macros for four different protocols including FBDIMM and PCI Express.
Earlier, he was the founder and CEO of Sandcraft, an embedded microprocessor company. His company acquired more than 20 patents with 25 more pending and obtained substantial funding though revenues from licensing fees and venture capital that led to a successful acquisition of the company. Mr. Yeung began his career with Hughes Aircraft, where he was responsible for the diagnostic development for the AMD-2900-based minicomputer. He also worked at Intel and Silicon Graphics, where he was responsible for R4300i MIPS embedded processor development used in the Nintendo-64 game console.
Mr. Yeung earned a B.S. degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Mini-MBA for High Tech Companies at Stanford University.
