iMB™01-GS02
LRDIMM Isolation Memory Buffer (iMB™) Component

Product Overview

iMB01-gsApplications

  • High-capacity virtualized servers for enterprise applications
  • Power, performance and capacity optimized servers for data centers
  • High-performance computing systems, e.g., FEA, O&G & defense laboratories
  • High-performance workstations for visualization and graphics intensive applications
  • Cost-effective servers in the small-medium business segments

Features

  • Higher system memory bandwidth at DDR3 speeds up to 1333 MT/s; This is accomplished by isolating the Host memory controller Data, Control and Clock signal drivers from the DRAM components on Load-Reduced DIMM (LRDIMM)
  • Higher capacity by using rank multiplication – 2, 4 and 8 ranks supported on the iMB and DRAM interface
  • No board change required on the current and up-coming DDR3 server systems as LRDIMM is compatible with existing DDR3 connector interface
  • Highly efficient thermal management using Flip-chip BGA package
  • Programmable-configuration interface compliant with the JEDEC 882 control word definition;
  • Power optimization using improved power management control
  • Improved clock specifications using integrated PLL and clock distribution buffers from a differential clock input to four differential clock outputs configurable for skew and drive strength output control
  • Skew optimization on data groups & corresponding strobe signals for improved margins on the Host and DRAM interface; 72-bit bi-directional data buffers are matched with 18-bit differential bi-directional DQS buffers

Description

The Isolation Memory Buffer (iMB™) component is a logic device that interfaces with the Host memory controller through a DDR3 connector interface. It is placed centrally on the LRDIMM board for optimal design of the Command, Address and Control signals. The primary purpose of the iMB component is to reduce the burden of driving long traces of Data, Command and Control signals on the Host controller drivers. The iMB isolates the electrical loading of DRAM devices on the LRDIMM from the host memory controller and from other DIMMs on the same host memory channel. This isolation improves signal integrity and allows an increased number of DRAM devices on a DIMM and an increased number of DIMM slots per channel at a given operating frequency, dramatically increasing server memory capacity and bandwidth compared to existing DDR3 RDIMM technology.
